The Wombles are back! Celebrating 50 years on screen, Britain’s iconic furry friends are championing sustainability, a love of nature and the importance of community more than ever before. 

With 85% of textiles ending up in landfill each year, sustainability is an ongoing challenge for fashion superbrands and supermarkets alike. So we teamed up with The Wombles to devise a seal of approval for brands who are genuinely committed to making less ‘stuff’.

Since the 70’s, The Wombles have had a powerful grassroots following of litter-picking ‘wombling groups’. Now they want to spread their environmental message far and wide by partnering with brands that have long-term sustainability goals and want to build awareness and engagement around their green initiatives.

So Wombles HQ needed a toolkit of assets that their partners could use to bring Great Uncle Bulgaria, Madame Cholet, Tobermory, Orinoco and the gang to life for a new generation. With a diverse archive of visual iterations, the challenge was to distill the nostalgia and eclecticism of the Wombles into a portfolio of cohesive and recognisable assets for a branded context.

We leant into the concept of ‘Found & Found’ - the name of the Wombles’ workshop where they keep peoples’ trash and turn it into treasure. We applied this ethos of circular living by reusing ‘found’ Womble elements and imagery to create a new and beautifully diverse visual and verbal toolkit for brand partners. Think recognisable icons, patterned pictograms and illustrations. A true British picnic of warm, Wombly features. Not forgetting a library of straplines with an upbeat sustainable spirit, inspired by Wombles’ original catchphrases and the iconic theme song.

As the Wombles lead the way with partnerships that champion sustainability, we are reminded that even the smallest action done together, like a logo on a T-shirt or a pattern on a bag, can have a massive impact.
